Product Discovery · Shopify Native

Know what to build. Before you spend on it

Structured product discovery for Shopify brands and founders. We turn vague ideas and conflicting stakeholders into a validated problem, prioritised scope, clear success metrics and a build-ready brief — so engineering starts with confidence instead of assumptions.

01 / CAPABILITIES

Sixteen ways we turn ideas into build-ready decisions.

From problem framing and research to prioritised scope, solution options and a written brief engineering can execute. Discovery that ends with a clear next step.

01

Problem framing

Clear problem statements, constraints and success metrics so the team agrees on what “done” means before design starts.

02

Assumption mapping

Riskiest assumptions surfaced and ranked so research focuses on what would change the decision if wrong.

03

User & stakeholder research

Interviews, surveys and workshops with customers and internal teams to ground decisions in evidence.

04

Competitive & market scan

Lightweight competitive and market analysis so you know where the opportunity sits and what to avoid.

05

Journey & opportunity mapping

Current and future journeys that reveal friction and high-value moments to design for first.

06

Prioritised product scope

Must-have vs later features ranked by impact and effort so the first release has a clear job.

07

Solution options & trade-offs

2–3 viable directions with cost, risk and learning implications so leadership can choose with eyes open.

08

Build-ready product brief

Written brief with problem, scope, metrics, constraints and open questions that engineering can execute from.

09

Shopify opportunity framing

Where Shopify, apps or custom work is the right lever — so you do not rebuild platform strengths.

10

Validation experiments

Lightweight tests — landing pages, waitlists, prototypes — when evidence is still too thin to commit to full build.

11

Success metrics & measurement

Leading and lagging indicators defined so the first release has a clear way to know if it worked.

12

Stakeholder alignment workshops

Facilitated sessions that surface conflict early and lock shared decisions before design and build spend.

13

Roadmap & phase planning

Phased roadmap from first release to growth, with clear decision points and kill criteria.

14

Technical feasibility check

Early architecture and integration constraints so scope does not assume impossible work.

15

Commerce & Shopify context

Discovery grounded in Shopify strengths, app ecosystem and real merchant workflows when relevant.

16

Handover into build

Seamless transition into MVP or full product build with the same team when you choose to proceed.

02 / PROCESS

How a product discovery engagement runs.

Every engagement follows the same four stages. You always know what is happening next and how success is measured at each milestone.

  1. Stage 1

    Frame & align

We lock the problem, constraints, success metrics and riskiest assumptions with stakeholders so discovery has a clear decision to support.

  2. Stage 2

    Research & evidence

User and stakeholder interviews, competitive scan and journey mapping generate the evidence needed to prioritise and choose direction.

  3. Stage 3

    Scope & options

Prioritised scope, 2–3 solution options with trade-offs and a recommended path — including go / no-go if evidence does not support build.

  4. Stage 4

    Brief & handover

Build-ready product brief, roadmap and measurement plan. Optional seamless transition into MVP or full product build with the same team.

05 / WHY BRANDS STAY

Six reasons brands stay with us for product discovery.

Most of our discovery work leads into build or repeat programmes. These are the reasons clients give when we ask why.

Ends with a decision

Discovery is time-boxed and ends with go / no-go, prioritised scope and a build-ready brief — not an endless research loop.

Commerce-aware by default

We frame opportunities against Shopify strengths and real merchant workflows so you do not rebuild what the platform already does well.

A dedicated product lead

One accountable owner, clear weekly updates, no account-manager telephone game.

Evidence before build spend

Assumptions tested and prioritised so engineering starts on the critical path, not on unvalidated ideas.

Transparent, fixed-scope pricing

Written scope and a fixed number before work starts. No surprise line items or hourly creep.

You own the output

Problem frames, maps, backlog and brief are yours. Optional seamless handover into build with the same team.

06 / TECH STACK

07 / FAQ

Questions we hear before every discovery engagement.

Honest answers, including the ones most agencies dodge.

How long does product discovery take?

Focused sprints usually run 2–4 weeks. Full programmes with multiple stakeholders and validation experiments often take 4–8 weeks. Duration is fixed in the SOW before work starts.

What do we get at the end?

A problem frame, prioritised scope, solution options with trade-offs, success metrics and a written product brief engineering can execute from — plus a clear go / no-go recommendation.

Do you only do discovery for Shopify products?

We specialise in commerce and Shopify-adjacent products, but the same methods apply to SaaS and internal tools. When Shopify is relevant we ground recommendations in platform strengths.

What does a typical engagement cost?

Sprints: $6K–$25K. Full programmes: $15K–$45K. Embedded: $8K–$20K/mo. Every quote is fixed-fee and locked in the SOW.

What if discovery says we should not build?

That is a successful outcome. We deliver the evidence and recommendation so you avoid expensive build on the wrong problem. Many clients use that clarity to pivot or pause.

Can discovery lead straight into build?

Yes. When you choose to proceed, the same team can take the brief into MVP or full product development with no re-brief or loss of context.
